Three Takeaways from Dortmund's statement 3-nil win against Sporting

The Black-and-Yellows, in a surprising fashion, beat Sporting Lisbon in Portugal by 3-nil and took a huge step toward the round of 16.

Daniel Svensson came into the ranks in the winter transfer window to provide the so-needed depth to the left-back spot. An extra body that came later rather than sooner but proved to be very necessary. Despite Ramy Bensebaini's injury picked against Stuttgart on the weekend, the young Dane did not disappoint in his first match as a starter.

Svensson performed well both off the ball and in possession. He looked reasonably comfortable in the inverted fullback role with the ball, while his defensive attributes were solid when facing a quick and unpredictable opponent like Geovany Quenda. His numbers might not be eye-catching, but the Dane certainly deserves a thumbs-up for this match, especially from his coach:

"Today, I would like to emphasize the little boy Daniel Svensson. He played his first game and played a really good game! He had zero minutes in his legs, a long winter break and the fact that he played like that has to be mentioned. Fantastic."
