Germany wrapped up their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a narrow 2-1 win over tournament co-hosts USA at the Soldier Field, Chicago on Saturday.

Kai Havertz and Leroy Sane were on target for Die Mannschaft while Antonee Robinson scored for the Stars and Stripes in a pulsating, end-to-end encounter.

Ranked 10th in the world, the four-time world champions came into the fixture on the back of an eight-game winning run in all competitions.

They rode on this momentum and snatched the lead after less than 120 seconds into the kick-off as Havertz headed in a perfectly delivered free-kick by Joshua Kimmich.

Robinson leveled the scores for USA against the tide with an audacious attempt from outside the box after Germany's attempt to clear a corner landed the ball right at his feet.

In the 57th minute, Sane smashed home a low-drive into the far corner to restore the away side's lead which they held on to for the remainder of the clash.

Borussia Dortmund stars Nico Schlotterbeck and Felix Nmecha retained their places in the XI, while Maximilian Beier came off the bench. Waldemar Anton also featured for the first time.

Rating BVB stars vs USA

Nico Schlotterbeck - 9/10

A gladiator on the field, Schlotterbeck guarded the German territory with exemplary vigilance and kept biting at the heels of USA players to regain possession. He won all five of his tackles, made four clearances and won seven ground duels too. One of his best ever performances with Germany till date!

Felix Nmecha - 6.5/10

The midfielder had a rather somber evening, struggling to get involved in the proceedings and laying just 26 passes before getting subbed off in the 80th minute. Nmecha actively competed for the ball but won just four of his eight ground duels.

Waldemar Anton - 6/10

In his first appearance for Germany this international window, Anton was far from spectacular. He rarely saw the ball and was a mere spectator for a majority of his time on the field. The BVB centre-back laid one key pass, which demonstrated the attacking side of his game.

Maximilian Beier - 6/10

Having come off the bench in their last game, Beier was subbed in during the closing stages of the match once again. With only 10 minutes of playing time on his hand, the Dortmund forward couldn't really impact the game much, failing to register a single cross or a shot.
