Borussia Dortmund defender Waldemar Anton looked back upon a 'very good' season for his side in the Bundesliga after ending with a 2-0 win over Werder Bremen on Saturday.

Serhou Guirassy and Yan Couto netted apiece in the second half to secure all three points and ensure they end a long and challenging top-flight campaign on a positive note.

For the first time since 2023, the Black and Yellows finished as the Bundesliga runners-up as Waldemar Anton congratulated rivals Bayern Munich for winning the league title.

"“We’ve had a very, very good season. We were in the mix for long stretches and achieved the goal that was still possible: finishing second. That’s the main thing. Nevertheless, we had completely different goals, but we didn't manage to finish first. But Bayern have had an outstanding season; we mustn’t forget that. Congratulations to Bayern. We’ll be back at it next season.”"

Bayern Munich won the title with a massive 89 points, 16 more than Dortmund as the BVB slumped a bit towards the end of the season which widened the gap and preponed the former's coronation too.

Three losses from their last six top-flight matches served to take away some of the gloss from their campaign but it was still a better run than their last few ones.

In 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons, Dortmund were far off from challenging for the title, finishing fifth and fourth respectively. In the second instance, it was Niko Kovac who pulled the side out of the rut following his appointment mid-season as they were trailing near the mid-table until then.

Now in the Croatian's first full season in charge, Die Borussen became a mean outfit that was hard to score against and broke numerous milestones en route to achieving second place as well as their highest points tally in seven years.

However, the large gap between them and Bayern shows there's still plenty of work to be done. Their poor record against the top six was an Achilles heel, while Dortmund were also prone to defensive lapses that left them needing some late heroics.

It's been 14 years since the club last won the Meisterschale, a drought they'd be hoping to end next year by perhaps building on the success of this season as Dortmund are staring at a massive squad overhaul this summer too.

Their pre-season begins in July.
