Borussia Dortmund have had the privelege of witnessing some truly great attacking partnerships over the years.

Last season, the tradition continued with Serhou Guirassy and Julian Ryerson forging a deadly combo upfront to yield several goals for the club.

The chief supplier of crosses, Ryerson also emerged as BVB's deadball specialist after making numerous excellent deliveries while Guirassy was on hand to convert many of his supplies.

Together, they became a fearsome attacking duo in the Bundesliga. With 17 league goals for Guirassy and 15 assists for Ryerson, the players were also Dortmund's best statistically on those fronts.

In a recent interview with Bundesliga, Guirassy was asked if his partnership with Ryerson is special, to which he revealed that the two communicate often, sometimes even on matters not related to football.

"Yes, definitely. We talk a lot; it’s not always about football, sometimes we’re just having a laugh. I often say to Julian, 'If you want an assist, just pass me the ball.' He racked up 15 assists in the Bundesliga last season – as a defender. That in itself is a testament to his quality. We’re simply trying to make the most of Julian’s strengths."

With 15 league assists (and 18 in all competitions), Ryerson was in the form of his life throughout 2025-26 season. His tally was bettered only by Bayern Munich duo Luis Diaz (17) and Michael Olise (20) in the division.

Some of them unsurpisingly went to Guirassy, with the duo even combining twice in the same game one time as Dortmund beat Mainz 4-0. Both of Guinean's strikes on the day were created by Ryerson, who later completed a hat-trick of assists too.

On that day, the Guirassy-Ryerson combo was truly elevated to its highest stature as the players were totally in sync. Their communication was almost telepathic; it was as if Ryerson knew where to put the ball and Guirassy understood how to move in order to get to the end of it.

Five of Guirassy's 17 top-flight goals were assisted by Ryerson. They also combined once in the Champions League, wherein the Guinean striker headed in a fabulous looping cross from his Norwegian attacking cohort in their 2-0 win over Atalanta.

With uncertainty clouding over Guirassy's future, the BVB fans are anxious if they will get to see the stars combine again next season. If they do, the duo could play an important role in their title charge on multiple fronts again.
