Borussia Dortmund finished with the best defensive record in the 2025-26 Bundesliga season, conceding only 34 goals. That's two fewer than even champions, Bayern Munich.

Under Niko Kovac's first full-season in-charge, the BVB transformed into a mean outfit that was hard to beat as their defensive structure remained water-tight.

His back-three formula, primarily featuring Ramy Bensebaini, Nico Schlotterbeck and Waldemar Anton, was the foundation of a successful campaign.

But there was one more important component in Die Borussen's sturdy backline which became the backbone of their solid defensive lineup, goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.

The Swiss international bailed his side out on numerous occasions with vital saves. In fact he registered 86 throughout the Bundesliga season, an impressive 71.7% save percentage.

Then, there's the clean sheet. Kobel recorded a club-high of 15 clean sheets in a single league campaign, equaling the milestone set by Roman Weidenfeller during the title winning 2011-12 top-flight campaign.

Where does he rank against the other goalkeepers in the Bundesliga? Let's have a look:

5) Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich) - 8

Even at the ripe old age of 40, Manuel Neuer continues to star for Bayern Munich. He's managed to retain his place in between the sticks despite recurring calf injuries while even keeping eight clean sheets during the 2025-26 season.

4) Peter Gulacsi (RB Leipzig) - 10

RB Leipzig were back among the top four sides in the German top-tier following a much improved run and Peter Gulacsi was among the central figures behind it. The Hungarian made a series of eye-catching stops much to the opposition's chagrin, while keeping 10 clean sheets.

3) Alexander Nubel (Stuttgart) - 11

Just one ahead of Gulacsi is Alexander Nubel, who crossed double digits for clean sheets yet again. During his first year at Stuttgart, the goalkeeper kept 11 clean sheets. Now two years later, he matched the figure once again following a strong run.

2) Moritz Nicolas (Borussia Monchengladbach) - 13

The Foals had a rather disappointing campaign which saw them finish in 12th place of the league standings but not all was doom and gloom. Moritz Nicolas gave the fans something to cheer with his talismanic displays, notching up 13 clean sheet for the season.

1) Gregor Kobel (Borussia Dortmund) - 15

Now there's our hero, right at the number one spot! Gregor Kobel had the season of his life for the BVB, picking up a club record 15 clean sheets in the Bundesliga that also earns him the best goalkeeper award in the competition.
