Borussia Dortmund kick-off of their BVB Evonik Japan Tour later today with a preseason friendly against J1 League side Cerezo Osaka, marking their third game of the summer overall.
The squad flew to East Asia on Sunday, with some of their 2026 FIFA World Cup stars like Felix Nmecha, Daniel Svensson and Carney Chukwuemeka also joining up.
While there are some notable absentees, such as Julian Ryerson and Gregor Kobel, who have been given an extended time off and Nico Schlotterbeck, who continues his recovery from a hamstring injury, Dortmund is also missing in one other player.
Diant Ramaj didn't travel to Japan
Dortmund's reserve goalkeeper Diant Ramaj hasn't traveled with the squad either as the 24-year-old is reportedly on his way out of the club.
According to Sky reporter Florian Plettenberg on X, Ramaj is allowed to leave the club before the Deadline Day on 1 September and is currently free to negotiate with interested clubs.
He further stated that it's not clear if the German-Kosovan would leave on loan or a permanent transfer yet, but there have been several inquiries and discussions are ongoing.
Surplus to Kovac's requirements
Swiss star Gregor Kobel has been the indispensable choice in goal for Borussia Dortmund since joining in 2021 with Alexander Meyer right behind him in the pecking order.
Ramaj hasn't been able to wrestle his way into the lineup though, with the goalkeeper yet to make his club debut even a year after joining.
Signed from Ajax Amsterdam in February 2025, he was instantly loaned out to Danish side FC Copenhagen for the remainder of the campaign.
He played a crucial role in helping the side win the Danish Superliga and the Danish Cup double, conceding just 14 goals and keeping 10 clean sheets.
Despite making 17 appearances with the side, it didn't quite help him get any minutes with Dortmund as Ramaj was then loaned out to FC Heidenheim for the entirety of last season.
But after finishing in 17th place of the top-flight standings, the FCH were relegated to 2. Bundesliga last season, paving Ramaj's way back to Dortmund.
Departure could help career revival
As his future at Signal Iduna Park continues to look uncertain, it's no surprise to see Diant Ramaj looking for greener pastures away from Dortmund.
He's only 24, so has enough time to get his career back on track and perhaps become the first-choice keeper at a club again.
