Borussia Dortmund have reportedly loaned out Yan Couto to Serie A side Como for the 2026-27 season.

The Italian side has agreed a deal in principle for the get the Brazilian to Lombardy and will be covering his salary for the entire campaign, reported transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on X.

Couto struggled to nail down a starting berth in BVB's set-up last season and his lack of gametime also saw him miss the 2026 FIFA World Cup with Brazil as Carlo Ancelotti didn't call him up to his 26-man squad.

With Julian Ryerson bringing on his best ever form to the fore in 2025-26 season with 18 assists in all competitions, the Norwegian convincingly made the right-back spot his own.

It saw Couto lose his place in the XI after having completed 90 minutes in their first three league games of the season.

After the turn of 2026, the full-back was averaging a meager 36 minutes per game in the Bundesliga as head coach Niko Kovac mainly used him as a substitute.

On the final matchday of the 2025-26 season though, Couto popped up with a late goal off the bench in their 2-0 win over Werder Bremen which demonstrated his capabilities.

However, with Ryerson likely to continue as Dortmund's preferred right-back next season, Couto's future was still rooted in uncertainty.

This loan move to Como offers him a chance to revive his career. The BVB do see his potential, which is why the club hasn't offloaded him entirely.

German news outlet Kicker reported that Dortmund's management hopes for Couto to get enough playing time with his new side and returns a better player.

At 24 years of age, he certainly has the potential to develop into a world-class prospect in the right environment and with the right amount of opportunities.

With Cesc Fabregas demonstrating astute management with his young players at Como, there's hope that Couto could find his best under the Spaniard's wings too.

Should that happen, it might get his international career back on track too after seeing it get frozen since his last appearance in June 2024.

He was in Dorival Junior's squad for the Copa America that year, but didn't see a single minute as Couto was on the bench for their entire campaign.

Even after Carlo Ancelotti took charge of the Selecao in May last year, there was no reprieve for Couto, who remained sidelined, never even receiving a call-up, let alone playing for Brazil.
