The treble over Gladbach

Borussia Dortmund have faced Borussia Mönchengladbach three times this season, and Lucien Favre’s side have been under immense pressure on all three occasions. But the players have stepped up in all three games, giving Dortmund three wins in the ‘Battles of the Borussias’ this season.

Dortmund went into the home league game against the Foals on the back of three straight draws. But they fought hard and got the job done against league leaders Gladbach, earning a narrow 1-0 win courtesy of Marco Reus’ winner.

The two sides met again just ten days later in the DFB Pokal. This time, Gladbach took the lead in the second half through Marcus Thuram. But with Dortmund facing an early exit from the Pokal, Julian Brandt finally announced himself with a game-changing brace to send Dortmund through to the next round.

And Dortmund made it three wins from three against Marco Rose’s side earlier this month, when they showed their mettle and fight with a 2-1 win away from home, courtesy of goals from Thorgan Hazard and Achraf Hakimi.
