Gio Reyna is set for a long term contract extension with Borussia Dortmund when he turns 18 next month, and it will also see him get a big pay rise.
Reyna joined Borussia Dortmund from New York City FC on an initial two year contract in 2019. He has enjoyed a rapid rise through the ranks, and has already become a key first team player despite his young age. It has long been reported that an agreement is in place for him to sign a new three year deal when he turns 18 in November. And now BILD report that the long term extension will see him earn an annual salary of 2.5 million euros.
Reyna made his Borussia Dortmund debut in January, and has since become a regular starter for the Black and Yellows. He has enjoyed an excellent start to the new season, scoring two goals so far. The attacking midfielder also made history earlier this month, becoming the first 17 year old to register three assists in a single Bundesliga game during Borussia Dortmund’s 4-0 win over SC Freiburg.
His form has reportedly attracted the attention of the likes of Real Madrid and Liverpool. But Reyna is not going anywhere anytime soon. Speaking to BILD during pre-season, Reyna said that he is loving life at Borussia Dortmund.
"“Right now, I am very, very happy here, and that is all that counts,” Reyna said. “Dortmund is not a stepping stone to me. It is a club that is fighting for titles. The incredible fans alone make the BVB something special.”"
‘The American Dream’ has developed an exciting partnership with teammate Erling Haaland, and will now be aiming to continue his superb form heading into what promises to be a busy period of fixtures for Borussia Dortmund.
