Mateu Morey has said that he is very happy at Borussia Dortmund, and he does not have any regrets about his decision to leave Barcelona in 2019.
Morey joined Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer from FC Barcelona in July 2019. The highly rated right-back had to endure a long wait to get a real chance in the first-team. But the recent injury to Thomas Meunier saw him finally get an extended run in the team at right-back. And he took his chance well, showing glimpses of the quality that prompted the BVB bosses to sign him from Barcelona.
In an interview with Marca, Morey said that moving to Borussia Dortmund in 2019 was the best option for his career.
"“I am very happy here in Dortmund, playing and taking advantage of the opportunities that the club gives me. If I had stayed there (in Barcelona), I don’t know what would have happened. I think I chose the best option to grow in my career and I have no regrets at all, I am very happy at Dortmund.”"
Morey has made a total of 17 appearances for Borussia Dortmund so far this season, and registered his first assist of the campaign in the 4-0 win over Schalke 04 last month. He has also been a solid defensive presence for the team in recent games.
Mateu Morey on Erling Haaland: “If he scores four goals, he wants to score five”
Morey was also asked about Erling Haaland, and what the Norwegian international is like in training, and spoke about the striker’s hunger and determination.
"“What really impresses me is his ambition to improve, his hunger. He is a player who scores three goals and wants to score four; and if he scores four, he wants to score five. He fights for everything, gives everything for every ball and tries to score as many goals as possible.”"
After being rested for the game against Bayern Munich on Saturday, Morey is set to return to the starting XI for the second leg of Borussia Dortmund’s round of 16 tie against Sevilla. Despite going into the second leg with a 3-2 lead, Morey says that the Black and Yellows will not approach the game with a defensive mindset.
"“We played a very good game (in the first leg), but we left them alive and it won’t be easy to seal the tie. We have our objective: to at least score a goal and make it impossible for them. We are going to go out and play our game and if we win, we will surely win the tie. That’s our objective.”"
A win on Tuesday would mean a first Champions League quarter-finals appearance for Borussia Dortmund since the 2016/17 season.
