Borussia Dortmund may not buy a new goalkeeper in the summer after all, with Ruhr Nachrichten claiming that the BVB bosses are only exploring the transfer market as a precautionary measure at the moment. The newspaper adds that internally it is expected that Roman Bürki and Marwin Hitz will compete for the starting spot next season.

It was reported earlier that Borussia Dortmund would like to bring in a new first choice goalkeeper in the summer. The Black and Yellows have been linked with a number of shot-stoppers in recent weeks. But the club may now look to prioritise other positions in the summer transfer window, especially due of the current financial situation.

The final decision on the goalkeeper position is still pending though. How the BVB bosses plan will ultimately depend on Marco Rose’s evaluation of the two goalkeepers. According to Ruhr Nachrichten, the incoming Borussia Dortmund head coach has not yet commented on how he is planning to deal with the goalkeeping situation. He has also not had any conversations yet with Bürki.

Roman Bürki was dropped by interim head coach Edin Terzic in favour of Marwin Hitz last month. His last game between the sticks came in the 4-2 defeat to Marco Rose’s Borussia Mönchengladbach. He suffered a shoulder injury after that, and now finds himself as the second choice goalkeeper. But the BVB bosses reportedly trust him to come back stronger from the current situation.

The report also adds that while a summer exit for Bürki cannot be ruled out, it does not appear to be likely at the moment. The 30 year old still has three years remaining on his current Borussia Dortmund contract. Hitz, who signed a contract extension last month, is also under contract until 2023.
