Highly rated Borussia Dortmund midfielder Vasco Walz has agreed to sign a new contract with the club, rejecting interest from the likes of FC Barcelona and AC Milan. According to Ruhr Nachrichten, the 16 year old, who is currently the captain of the Borussia Dortmund U-17s, will initially be promoted to the U-19s team in the summer.

Walz’ contract was due to expire at the end of the season, and a number of big clubs in Europe were interested in signing him on a free transfer. AC Milan and FC Barcelona were both linked with the midfielder. But he was convinced by Borussia Dortmund’s plans for his future, and will now stay with the club for the foreseeable future.

Walz joined Borussia Dortmund in 2019 and has made a total of 22 appearances for the U-17s, scoring one goal. He has also played for the Germany U-17s national team.

Walz will now be hoping to follow in the footsteps of Youssoufa Moukoko, who rose through the ranks before making it to the BVB first team. The striker became the youngest player to ever play and score in the Bundesliga in 2020. Highly rated defender Nnamdi Collins is also set to be promoted to the first team next season.

Walz will join the Borussia Dortmund U-19s squad which contains some of Europe’s most talented young players. The Black and Yellows have signed several highly rated players in recent months, including Jamie Bynoe-Gittens from Manchester City, Julian Rijkhoff from Ajax and Soumaila Coulibaly from Paris St. Germain.
