Borussia Dortmund striker Youssoufa Moukoko has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a foot ligament injury while on international duty with the Germany U-21s.
The injury marks a premature end to what has been an incredible breakthrough campaign for Youssoufa Moukoko. He made history in November by becoming the youngest player to ever play in the Bundesliga, just one day after his 16th birthday. He became the youngest Champions League debutant less than three weeks later.
Moukoko then became the youngest player to ever score in the Bundesliga with his goal against Union Berlin in December. He has a total of three goals to his name in just 15 appearances for the senior team.
The highly rated striker’s performances saw him earn a place in the Germany U-21s squad for the group stage of the European Championship in March. But he suffered an injury during the final training session before the first game, which prevented him from taking part in any of the three matches.
Germany U-21s head coach Stefan Kuntz had earlier said that Moukoko’s injury was only a minor one. But now it will keep him out of action until the end of the season.
Moukoko’s injury is another big blow for the Black and Yellows, who are already without Jadon Sancho at the moment. Dan-Axel Zagadou and Axel Witsel are also out until the end of the season with their respective injuries, while Marcel Schmelzer is working his way back to full fitness after having knee surgery in August.
