Ten Borussia Dortmund players called up for international duty

The second international break of the season is here and a total of ten Borussia Dortmund players have been called up by their respective national teams.

Club football is taking a break but a number of Borussia Dortmund players will be in action for their national teams over the next ten days. Some very exciting matches are in store, including the UEFA Nations League finals and a number of crunch World Cup qualifiers.

Marco Reus has been called up by Germany head coach Hansi Flick for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Romania and North Macedonia. Germany are in a great position in their qualifying group with five wins from their opening six games.

Axel Witsel and Thorgan Hazard have been named in Belgium’s squad for the UEFA Nations League finals. The Borussia Dortmund duo will go up against France in the semi-finals. And if they manage to beat France, they will face Italy or Spain in the UEFA Nations League final on Sunday. Thomas Meunier was also called up but has now left the Belgium camp due to the injury.

Switzerland have called up Manuel Akanji as they look to try and close in on Italy in their World Cup qualifying group. They will face Northern Ireland and Lithuania this month. Gregor Kobel was also called up, but he has now withdrawn from the squad with a knee injury.

Donyell Malen has been named in the Netherlands squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Latvia and Gibraltar. The Netherlands lead their qualifying group on goal difference and will be looking to maintain top spot this month.

In the same qualifying group, second placed Norway have crucial qualifiers coming up against Turkey and Montenegro. Erling Haaland had earlier been called up by Norway, but he has been forced to pull out of the squad due to a thigh injury.

Raphael Guerreiro will be in action for Portugal as they take on Qatar (international friendly) and Luxembourg (World Cup qualifier). Marin Pongracic is back in the Croatia squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Cyprus and Slovakia.

Youssoufa Moukoko has been called up by the Germany U-21s, and he will be aiming to pick up right where he left off last month. They will face Israel U-21s and Hungary U-21s in the European U-21 Championship qualifiers. Ansgar Knauff and Luca Unbehaun are part of the Germany U-20s squad for their games against Poland and Romania.
