Erling Haaland continues to be linked with some of the world’s biggest clubs. But Mats Hummels is not giving up hope of the striker staying at Borussia Dortmund.

Rumours about Erling Haaland’s future continue to dominate the headlines all over Europe, with several big clubs interested in signing him next summer. But Mats Hummels believes that the Norwegian international could still stay at Borussia Dortmund beyond the end of the current season.

"In an interview with SportBILD, Hummels said:“I would fully understand him wanting to stay! Because things are really great in Dortmund, because he knows what he has here. I have far from given up hope that he will stay for a long time.”"

With the likes of Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Manchester City and Manchester United all reportedly interested in signing Haaland next summer, the chances of the striker staying at Borussia Dortmund are currently viewed as unlikely by many.

But Hummels, who left Borussia Dortmund for Bayern Munich in 2016 before returning to the club three years later, believes that the grass is not always greener on the other side. When asked about what advice he would give to his teammate, Hummels said that being in the right environment is worth a lot in football.

"“The grass is not always greener on the other side. You really have to be aware of that in football. It’s worth a lot if you have a good environment, feel comfortable with the guys and can also be really successful. You have to value that, that’s not a given at every club. So we have a lot to offer to Erling.”"

While speculation about Haaland’s future continues to mount, a decision has not yet been made. The BVB bosses are still hopeful of keeping the 21 year old at the club. And Haaland has also never been shy about how much he loves playing for the Black and Yellows.
