Report: Borussia Dortmund optimistic of keeping Erling Haaland at the club for another season
By Tushar Bahl
Borussia Dortmund are reportedly optimistic over their chances of keeping Erling Haaland at the club for at least another year.
Speculation about Erling Haaland’s future has been a major talking point in European media over the last 12 months. Transfer rumours surrounding Haaland’s next club are in full swing, and some of Europe’s biggest clubs are interested in signing him. Manchester City, Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Paris St. Germain, Manchester United and Chelsea have all been linked with a move for the Borussia Dortmund striker in recent months.
The BVB bosses have always maintained that they want to keep Haaland at the club, and they will try and convince him to stay when the two parties hold talks regarding his future.
Now the Süddeutsche Zeitung report that there is growing optimism at Borussia Dortmund that they can keep the 21 year old at the club beyond the end of the current season.
The newspaper adds that the transfer market situation next summer is unlikely to be optimal for Mino Raiola to secure a big money move for his client. The reason for this is the sharp rise in COVID-19 cases in Europe, which has led to increased restrictions once again. So, a move after the 2022/23 season would make more economic sense for Haaland and his agent.
Raiola said earlier this month that there is a big chance of Haaland leaving Borussia Dortmund at the end of the current season. But he later backtracked on his comments, saying that it’s not a sure thing that he will leave in the summer.
Süddeutsche Zeitung also report that negotiations between the BVB bosses and the Haaland camp are expected to continue until around February. We will likely have more clarity then about the Norwegian international’s future.
