Report: Borussia Dortmund interested in signing Chelsea left-back Ian Maatsen
Borussia Dortmund are said to be interested in signing highly rated Chelsea left-back Ian Maatsen, who could be a cheaper alternative to their other targets.
Borussia Dortmund have already bolstered their defence with the signings of Niklas Süle and Nico Schlotterbeck, and their focus could now switch to the full-back areas. Left-back is one position the Black and Yellows may look to strengthen this summer. And according to BILD, the BVB bosses are strongly considering a move for young Chelsea left-back Ian Maatsen.
The 20 year old has enjoyed an impressive loan spell with Coventry City in the second division of English football this season. Maatsen is set to return to Chelsea this summer, and BILD claim that BVB are keeping a close eye on his development.
Borussia Dortmund already have three left-backs in their ranks, in Raphael Guerreiro, Nico Schulz and the highly rated Tom Rothe. The future of Guerreiro remains uncertain, with just one year left on his current contract. Reports have claimed that he has already been offered to FC Barcelona. While Schulz is free to leave the club this summer.
Borussia Dortmund have been linked with a number of left-backs in recent weeks, including Ramy Bensebaini and David Raum. But Ian Maatsen would be a cheaper alternative to both Bensebaini and Raum.

Maatsen would certainly be an interesting option for Borussia Dortmund. The Netherlands U-21s international is rated highly at Chelsea, and is capable of playing both as a left-back and a left wing-back. He has made 40 appearances for Coventry City this season, scoring three goals.
