Highly rated right-back Lion Semic has signed his first professional contract with Borussia Dortmund that will keep him at the club until 2024.
Borussia Dortmund have handed Lion Semic his first professional contract, and the young right-back looks set to be a part of the first-team plans starting from next season. The 18 year old’s contract was set to expire at the end of the season, but the Black and Yellows have moved quickly to tie him down to a two-year extension.
Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl is confident that Semic has all the tools he needs to make an impact in professional football.
"“We are happy to have developed another young player at BVB in Lion Semic, who, with his pace and offensive drive, has the skills to assert himself in professional football.”"
Lion Semic is coming off an impressive season with the Borussia Dortmund U-19s and helped them win the German championship on Sunday. He made 24 appearances for the BVB U-19s in the recently concluded season, and managed to get three goals and seven assists.
A number of clubs from the 2. Bundesliga, including Hamburger SV, were interested in signing Semic on a free transfer. But he decided to sign his first professional contract with Borussia Dortmund.
Semic made his first team debut in April as he came off the bench during Borussia Dortmund’s 6-1 win over VfL Wolfsburg. And he could now be set for more first-team opportunities in the coming months. The Germany U-19s international is excited about the opportunity to train and play with his role models.
"“It’s an incredible feeling to take the step into the professional ranks at this special club. I’m looking forward to being able to train and play with my role models.”"
U-19s captain Dennis Lütke-Frie has also signed a two-year contract extension with Borussia Dortmund. The midfielder will play for the BVB U-23s in the 3. Liga next season.
