Borussia Dortmund played their first friendly of the pre-season against Lüner SV, with Edin Terzić’s side winning 3-1.

Borussia Dortmund’s preseason got off to a winning start after they managed to win 3-1 against Westfalenliga side Lüner SV. The Black and Yellows fielded a team that mostly consisted of U-19s and U-23s players, with Mats Hummels wearing the captain’s armband.

The game was a good warm up for the preparations yet to take place, namely the team’s annual training camp in Bad Ragaz. It was also a great opportunity for younger players to showcase some of their abilities in front of head coach Edin Terzić.

One player who took full opportunity of this was newcomer Prince Aning. The 18 year old Netherlands youth international usually plays as a left back, but in this fixture, Terzić deployed him ahead of fellow Dortmund youth player Tom Rothe.

The young Dutchman acquitted himself well in this more advanced position, showing off his ability to take players on and even scoring in the first half. Terzić praised the youngster after the game, highlighting his work ethic.

"“He was one of our most active players, he demanded the ball and was courageous in one-on-one situations.”"

Terzić did go on to state that he had expected a better overall display from his side, but admitted that the players had worked very hard in training over the course of the week. The BVB head coach also alluded to further squad movement, stating that the squad in its current state, isn’t “completely ready”.

The announcement of Sébastien Haller will go some distance in reinforcing the squad for next season, but Terzić is likely also alluding to further additions and departures. Manuel AkanjiRaphaël Guerreiro and Nico Schulz have all been earmarked for departures should the right bid come in from a potential suitor. David Raum on the other hand remains a hot topic for Dortmund and will likely remain so, especially if any of the aforementioned departures should occur.
