Borussia Dortmund are looking to replace Belgian International Thomas Meunier with Feyenoord’s Lutsharel Geertruida, per reports by BILD.

The winter transfer window is still some weeks away, but rumors continue to swirl around potential players being scouted by Borussia Dortmund. As reported in the last few days, Borussia Dortmund have seemingly shown interest in Lutsharel Geertruida as a potential replacement for Thomas Meunier, should the former Club Brugge and PSG right-back depart for pastures new.

BILD have now doubled down on this concept, highlighting that Dortmund have been watching the player for “some time”. Geertruida, as a player, ticks many of the boxes one would expect BVB would need in terms of a successful signing at full-back; a strong defender with pace to burn, along with the football IQ to play multiple positions if need be.

Geertruida is capable of filling in at centre-back and in defensive midfield if need be, which would make him a very enticing option for Die Schwarzgelben.

In addition to this, Geertruida has youth on his side that could see him become an important part of the BVB defence for years to come. At 22 years old, he’ll possibly have a more long term say in Borussia Dortmund’s future success than Meunier would, with the Belgian international entering the twilight of his playing career.

Meunier’s performances at Dortmund have done very little to convince to this point, and with the player’s head seemingly turned by the likes of Barcelona, Manchester United and AC Milan, it may be best for both parties to part ways. Dortmund need to look to the future in terms of squad planning, and it seems to me that replacing Meunier would be a good step in the direction of a proper revamp going forward.
