Predicted Borussia Dortmund lineup vs Schalke 04
By Tushar Bahl
Borussia Dortmund and Schalke 04 will lock horns in the Bundesliga this weekend, with both teams desperate for points in what will be a massive derby.
The stakes could not be higher as the Revierderby takes centre stage in the Bundesliga this weekend. Borussia Dortmund will be aiming to recover from Tuesday’s defeat to Chelsea by getting the better of Schalke 04.
The Black and Yellows will view this as a must-win game against a side that is battling relegation. But Schalke 04 go into the Revierderby on the back of two wins and four draws from their last six matches.
Borussia Dortmund have a number of injury concerns ahead of the game. Julian Brandt, Karim Adeyemi, Youssoufa Moukoko, Julien Duranville and Mateu Morey will all miss the trip to Schalke. Gregor Kobel and Marco Reus are also doubts ahead of kick-off.
If the Switzerland international isn’t able to feature, second-choice goalkeeper Alexander Meyer will start between the sticks once again.
Marius Wolf will likely keep his place at right-back, with Julian Ryerson expected to return to the starting XI at left-back.
Niklas Süle and Nico Schlotterbeck had a difficult time against Chelsea, but have been largely solid in the Bundesliga since the turn of the year. Mats Hummels could also be an option if Edin Terzic decides to give one of his two first-choice central defenders a breather.
Emre Can is set to keep his place in defensive midfield. Salih Özcan is also likely to start. Although his recent struggles may force Terzic into a tactical rethink. Mahmoud Dahoud also deserves a chance to play from the start, but it remains to be seen if he will get one.
Jude Bellingham had a difficult time against Chelsea. But he will not be getting a rest just yet due to the importance of the Revierderby.
Marco Reus is dealing with an illness. If he isn’t able to recover in time, one of Donyell Malen and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens will likely come into the starting XI. Gio Reyna replaced Julian Brandt against Chelsea, and will likely get the opportunity to play from the start on Saturday. Sebastien Haller will start up front, aiming to end his goal drought.
Predicted Borussia Dortmund lineup vs Schalke 04: Meyer – Wolf, Süle, Schlotterbeck, Ryerson – Can, Özcan, Bellingham – Reyna, Bynoe-Gittens – Haller
