Right-back

A new right-back is a clear need for Borussia Dortmund. Thomas Meunier appears to be in his final season with the Black and Yellows. He had an opportunity to leave this winter, and Barcelona are still interested in signing him. Meunier also hasn’t started a match for a while now for BVB and recently featured for the U-23s team to gain match fitness.

With Meunier’s future pointing elsewhere, the other options in the first-team are Julian Ryerson, Marius Wolf, Mateu Morey, and Felix Passlack.

Ryerson has been solid playing in both flanks since his January arrival, and Wolf has made some good impact in the hybrid full-back/wing-back role. They are both useful players and will also be crucial next season.

Morey, on the other hand, has been forced to deal with injury struggles for the last two seasons now. And a loan spell could be good for his career if he can manage to maintain his fitness. Similarly, Passlack is likely to leave with his contract expiring in the summer. So bringing in a new starting right-back to compete with Ryerson/Wolf would be a smart idea.

Despite having good alternatives for this role, Borussia Dortmund could look for an upgrade for the right-back position. Highly rated Spanish full-back Iván Fresneda has been linked with a move to BVB in recent weeks.
