Predicted Borussia Dortmund lineup for Augsburg clash
By Tushar Bahl
Borussia Dortmund go up against FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga this weekend in a game that could well make or break their title hopes.
Borussia Dortmund will look to put an end to their away day blues this weekend as they take on FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga. The Black and Yellows haven’t tasted a win away from home since late February. And Sunday’s must-win game will be their final opportunity to put an end to that unwanted record this season.
Edin Terzic and co. will have to make do without Jude Bellingham on Sunday. The midfielder wasn’t able to train with the team all week long, having picked up a knee injury during the win over Gladbach last weekend. Here we take a look at how Borussia Dortmund could line up for their Bundesliga clash against FC Augsburg.
Gregor Kobel will once again start between the sticks for Borussia Dortmund. The Swiss shot stopper will be hoping for a much quieter evening in goal than last weekend.
Mats Hummels and Niklas Süle have been solid in defence for the most part in recent games. And they deserve to start in central defence on Sunday. Augsburg striker Dion Drena Beljo could cause the BVB defenders a few problems, so they will have to be wary of his quality.
Terzic has reverted to Marius Wolf and Julian Ryerson as his preferred full-back pairing in recent games. And the duo will likely start again on Sunday.
Borussia Dortmund may well have to make a change in system in midfield with Jude Bellingham sidelined. It will be interesting to see who joins Emre Can and Julian Brandt in the middle of the park.
Raphael Guerreiro is the obvious option to replace Bellingham, having slotted in that role earlier in the season. His link-up play and creativity could give the team a spark in midfield against an Augsburg side that will likely look to defend deep.
Gio Reyna and Marco Reus could also be in contention, while Salih Özcan is another option if Terzic decides to go with a more defensive minded approach.
There is no need to make any changes to the Borussia Dortmund front three, with Donyell Malen, Karim Adeyemi, and Sebastien Haller all in blistering form at the moment. BVB have scored 19 goals in their last five games, and they will fancy their chances of continuing their free-scoring run on Sunday.
Predicted Borussia Dortmund Starting XI vs Augsburg: Kobel – Wolf, Süle, Hummels, Ryerson – Can, Guerreiro, Brandt – Malen, Adeyemi – Haller
