Soumaïla Coulibaly is set for a move to the English Premier League, with reports claiming that he is in advanced talks to join Burnley on loan.

It was reported last month that Soumaïla Coulibaly will be leaving Borussia Dortmund this summer. And now it appears that he is on his way to Burnley. According to L’Equipe, the young centre-back is in advanced talks to join the newly promoted English Premier League side on a loan deal. It is currently unclear whether Burnley will have the option to sign him permanently at the end of the loan spell.

Coulibaly joined Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in 2021, but has not been able to make his mark in the first-team.

The 19 year old made 16 appearances for Borussia Dortmund II in the recently concluded season, and also featured twice for the first-team. He made his Bundesliga debut against Stuttgart in April, but had a game to forget as the Black and Yellows were held to a costly 3-3 draw.

Soumaïla Coulibaly still has three years left on his current contract with Borussia Dortmund. And the hope will be that this loan move will give him the playing time he needs to further his development.

Burnley are coached by legendary Manchester City centre-back Vincent Kompany. So this could potentially be a shrewd move for Coulibaly, who has great potential.

Coulibaly’s exit will leave Borussia Dortmund a little light at centre-back. It will be interesting to see if they decide to bring in a new central defender to complement the likes of Niklas Süle, Nico Schlotterbeck and Mats Hummels.
