Report: Borussia Dortmund planning to start season with Julian Brandt and Marcel Sabitzer in midfield
By Tushar Bahl
Borussia Dortmund are reportedly planning to go into the new season with Julian Brandt and Marcel Sabitzer as their starting midfielders.
Felix Nmecha may well have to wait for his chance at Borussia Dortmund, with BILD claiming that Edin Terzic is planning to go with Julian Brandt and Marcel Sabitzer as his starting midfielders along with Emre Can.
The Austrian international joined Borussia Dortmund from Bayern Munich last month. And he made a strong initial impression during the pre-season friendly matches against Manchester United and Chelsea in the United States.
Edin Terzic was full of praise of Marcel Sabitzer after the game against Chelsea, and also hailed his leadership qualities. And now the 29 year old could be set to replace Jude Bellingham in the Borussia Dortmund starting XI.
Julian Brandt and Emre Can both established themselves as regular starters for Borussia Dortmund last season, and the latter has now also been appointed the club captain.
Felix Nmecha was forced to spend the majority of Borussia Dortmund’s recently concluded US Tour on the sidelines due to a thigh injury. And it appears that he will start the new season on the bench. But with the Black and Yellows set to compete in three competitions again this season, the summer signing will no doubt get his chance to impress before long.
Borussia Dortmund signed Nmecha from VfL Wolfsburg for a fee in the region of 30 million euros. The BVB bosses believe that the 22 year old has the potential to develop into a top quality midfielder in the future.
