Four Borussia Dortmund players included in Germany squad

Mats Hummels is one of four Borussia Dortmund players in the Germany squad for their upcoming fixtures against the United States and Mexico.
Julian Nagelsmann has announced his first Germany squad since being appointed head coach, and the former Bayern trainer has called up Mats Hummels. The veteran centre-back will make a spectacular return to the Germany set-up, more than two years after his last appearance for his country.
Niklas Süle, Julian Brandt, and Niclas Füllkrug are the other Borussia Dortmund players who will be making the trip to the United States.
As expected, Emre Can, Nico Schlotterbeck and Karim Adeyemi have been left out. Adeyemi and Youssoufa Moukoko have been named in the Germany U-21s squad for their upcoming matches against Bulgaria and Israel.
Nagelsmann was appointed Germany head coach last month, replacing Hansi Flick. And the 36 year old has made a number of bold selection calls in his first squad. Stuttgart forward Chris Führich, Union Berlin striker Kevin Behrens, and Bayer Leverkusen’s Robert Andrich have all received their maiden call-ups.
Mats Hummels is back in the Germany squad after his national team career appeared to be over under Hansi Flick. The 34 year old was left out of the Germany squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup despite his excellent form last season. But he has now been rewarded by Nagelsmann for his strong start to the current campaign.
The upcoming international break will see Germany go up against the United States – who have handed a call-up to Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder Gio Reyna – on October 14. They will then take on Mexico three days later.
