During the international break, people get talking and tea is spilled. Within the Borussia Dortmund circle of news, nothing has become a bigger eye-opening story than reports of an internal division over the recruitment strategy this summer.

Head coach Edin Terzic and sporting director Sebastian Kehl were reportedly at odds with each other over the course of the past summer with the profile of signings Borussia Dortmund needed. The former preferred a certain profile whilst the latter’s own ideas were a contrast. You would not have to look far to find an endless list of vetoed players who have moved on to greener pastures in other teams and leagues, yet are still the sort of players the Black and Yellows could use in their squad.

Borussia Dortmund are currently reeling from a 2-1 loss to VfB Stuttgart and find themselves in fifth place in the Bundesliga table, ten points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen. The concern at the start of the season was that this squad is too thin to compete in three competitions. With the infliction of injuries and fluctuation in form, that consensus is proving to be right.

One of the positions that is short of naturally positioned players is left-back. Raphael Guerreiro’s departure led to the free acquisition of Ramy Bensebaini, who is the only natural senior left-back at the club.

Tom Rothe is excelling on loan at Holstein Kiel, while Guille Bueno is unequivocally inexperienced at this level to deputise. The only other option is Julian Ryerson, who is needed at right-back with no other real alternatives in that position either.

Moreover, Bensebaini will be departing for the Africa Cup of Nations in January and will miss several games. Therefore, we will be looking at two candidates at left-back that Borussia Dortmund should consider signing.
