The DFB-Pokal had already produced some ridiculous scorelines this season. RB Leipzig thumped Eintracht Trier for six while Mainz wiped the floor with VfB Krieschow in a memorable 9-0 victory.
Eintracht Frankfurt though, made a huge statement of intent as the Eagles struck 11 goals without answer against St. Tonis for their joint biggest victory in a competitive game.
Borussia Dortmund joined the party last night with a comprehensive 5-0 demolition job of fifth-tier HEBC in Hamburg.
Samuele Inacio scored a brace while Daniel Svensson and Fabio Silva also bagged a goal apiece as Janek Wrede's 33rd-minute own goal opened the floodgates.
The victory means Dortmund haven't lost on the opening day of a cup season since a 2-1 loss to Eintracht Braunschweig in 2005, extending their first-round winning run to 21 consecutive years.

Rielasingen-Arlen 0-4 Dortmund (August 2017)
Having clinched the DFB-Pokal in 2016-17 season, the BVB began the defense of it in quite a remarkable fashion. Peter Bosz's side stunned the Freiburg crowd with a menacing attacking display, led by the peerless Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who struck a sensational hat-trick on the day. Marc Bartra had opened the floodgates in the 12th minute.
MSV Duisburg 0-5 Dortmund (September 2020)
The last time that BVB won exactly by a 5-0 scoreline in the first round of the German Cup before Tuesday was six years ago against then third-tier side Duisburg. A penalty from Jadon Sancho followed by Jude Bellingham's strike already had the side 2-0 up within 30 minutes, but a red card for Dominic Volkmer aided their cause further, with Dortmund netting thrice more in the match through Thorgan Hazard, Giovanni Reyna and Marco Reus.
Schott Mainz 1-6 Dortmund (August 2023)
Dortmund rarely score more than four goals in a game, let alone five. But on this occasion, the BVB went a step further and netted six. Sebastian Haller scored a first-half brace while Julian Brandt, Marcel Sabitzer, Donyell Malen and Youssoufa Moukoko also got on target at the Mewa Arena in Mainz. Nils Gans effort earlier on for the hapless hosts was completely eclipsed.
