Borussia Dortmund are planning to make a third attempt to sign Rayan Cherki. Sebastian Kehl and Niko Kovač, in particular, are very convinced of the player and have already spoken to Rayan Cherki. Both are strongly in favour of a transfer for the Frenchman.

However, there is an issue regarding this operation, according to Bild. The price tag is now rumoured to be 30 million euros, since Cherki renewed his contract recently until June 2026. On the other hand, the Black and Yellows hope that Lyon's economic struggles might induce John Textor to generate income through transfers.

During the course of the season, the French club was even threatened with the withdrawal of its licence due to liabilities, which amounted to 500 million euros. In the winter transfer window, Lyon sold three players to attempt to calm things down. Now, Lyon is also in danger of missing out on European competitions next season, which could also weigh on Cherki's hypothetical departure.

Borussia Dortmund has been trying to sign Rayan Cherki for a while now, as the deal almost went through in the last winter transfer window. However, Lyon's owner, John Textor, rejected the move, and the French international had to stay in his home country until the end of the season, at least. Textor had an allegedly 'gentlemen's agreement' for Cherki to renew his contract until 2026 so he could be sold in the meantime, which did not materialize last winter.

If Dortmund ended up with their hands on Cherki, it would be a great addition to the team's creative department, while players like Gio Reyna and Julian Brandt will need to assess their respective futures by the end of the season.
