Borussia Dortmund have quite a few attacking talents on their books, many of whom are even enviously sought after by clubs around Europe.
One player to emerged as a surprise star of their campaign was Julian Ryerson. The Norwegian fireball was an inexhaustible source of inviting crosses from the flanks while electrifying fans with his dead-ball specialty.
In 31 Bundesliga games, he made 15 assists, the most by a BVB player in a single season since Jadon Sancho registered 16 in 2018-19 season, while his figures were bettered by only two players in the division.
But what makes those numbers extra-special is that Ryerson is just a full-back. Operating mainly as the right-back, he can also take on a left-back's role as the player is incredibly versatile.
Manchester United keeping tabs on Ryerson
The BVB star's exploits certainly haven't gone unnoticed by the mightier quarters of Europe as Manchester United are reportedly keeping tabs on the star now.
According to Sky Sports reporter Patrick Berger, the Red Devils are monitoring the Norwegian international and consider him as a replacement for Noussair Mazraoui.
The Moroccan international could leave Old Trafford this summer, leaving behind a void that Ryerson is touted as the favorite to fill.
While Borussia Dortmund rate their player highly, it is said that they don't see him unsellable, meaning Ryerson could be sold off if a right bid comes up.
The 28-year-old is valued at €30 million, but The Daily Mail has reported that Manchester United's interests are relatively premature right now.
Signing Ryerson would go against the Premier League side's policy of roping in younger talents but he would certainly be a valuable addition on the flanks with his creative flair and flamboyance.
Also with Manchester United returning to Champions League next season, they do need a squad that will keep them competitive on multiple fronts. Ryerson can be vital in their endavors.
But apart from his price tag and the pre-requisite of Mazraoui leaving before any prospect of a transfer, Manchester United could also face competition for Ryerson.
Spanish champions Barcelona as well as domestic rivals Newcastle United are reportedly interested in the player too, all of which could make things murkier.
The project that United are currently building under Michael Carrick does seem exciting though, with United going from seventh to third since he took charge on 13 January.
Ryerson's performances at the World Cup could also factor in here.
