BVB x John Textor: The Last Lifeline for Rayan Cherki

Convincing Lyon's owner will likely be a pivotal part of BVB's attempt to sign Rayan Cherki.

According to Funke Sport, the BVB bosses are planning on making a third attempt to sign Rayan Cherki. Borussia Dortmund think very highly of the player, as they consider him a technically brilliant attacking player.

However, the talks with Cherki's camp are not as concrete as they were in the past, as this transaction will not be, by any means, an easy one. According to sources, John Textor, Lyon's owner, stipulated a 40 million euro minimum price to sell the French international. If that price is non-negotiable, then Borussia Dortmund's third attempt would be over before it even started.

This is not the first time Dortmund had problems with John Textor, as the American blocked a Cherki transfer to BVB last winter despite a gentleman's agreement with the player. Moreover, John Textor still seems to have little interest in Rayan Cherki playing for Borussia Dortmund in the future, as Bild has reported.

However, Rayan Cherki himself has reportedly emphasized many times to Textor that he would be alright with playing in Black and Yellow. In that case, this negotiation looks like it's going to be a chess match, as Dortmund will need to convince Textor in one way or another to bring Cherki to the Signal Iduna Park.

I believe Cherki is worth that 40 million amount, but Dortmund will definitely try to negotiate, and, as much as Lyon needs to sell, it doesn't seem like Textor will make matters easier either. Therefore, that BVB vs. Textor beef is far from being over, which will directly influence Cherki's coming to Dortmund or not.
