Borussia Dortmund star Karim Adeyemi has reportedly reached an agreement to join LaLiga champions Barcelona after days of negotiations.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano broke the news on his X handle on Friday, confirming that a deal worth €22 million has been reached and the German international will be signing a five-year contract.

Sky Sport's Patrick Berger has further stated that the agreement comes with added bonus of €9 million, tied to trophies and performances.

Dortmund have also secured a 35% sell-on clause on any future transfer fee involving the 24-year-old, who will take home a net salary of €6 million per season.

Adeyemi's nightmare is over

The move finally concludes a long and drawn-out transfer saga involving Adeyemi, who'd been linked with an exit for much of last season.

Fueling transfer speculations further was his decline in form during the second half of Dortmund's campaign with head coach Niko Kovac using him sparingly.

It all came to a head when former Germany coach Julian Naglesmann also overlooked Adeyemi in his 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

But despite a troublesome last few months, he remains a quality player with immense potential to develop into a world-class prospect.

Signed from Red Bull Salzburg in 2022, Adeyemi garnered 146 appearances in all competitions for Borussia Dortmund while scoring 36 goals and making 25 assists.

His signing marks a major tactical coup for Barcelona, who have also acquired Anthony Gordon on a massive deal from Newcastle United.

The Spanish giants want to rejig their attacking vanguard following Robert Lewandowski's departure to Chicago Fire and Marcus Rashford returning to Manchester United after the end of his loan spell.

Dortmund get major transfer boost

With the sale of Karim Adeyemi, Borussia Dortmund's coffers are filled up again as the club can continue their own squad rebuilding.

So far, the club has signed two defenders, Joane Gadou and Kaua Prates, and one midfielder, Justin Lerma. But now, the priorities shift to bringing in a playmaker and a forward.

Remember, Julian Brandt's departure has left a massive void in the attacking midfielder's position that hasn't been cemented yet.

Although Lerma primarily operates in that role, he remains an untested quantity in Europe and at 18, cannot be expected to carry the weight of their creative burden just yet.

Moreover, there's still uncertainty surrounding striker Serhou Guirassy's future as the Guinean is on the viewfinder of several European clubs right now and the club has revealed that they will except 'extraordinary offers' for him.
