Borussia Dortmund beat Stuttgart 2-0 in the Bundesliga on Saturday as substitutes Karim Adeyemi and Julian Brandt struck in extra-time.
The win ended their treacherous run against the side and consolidated their position in second place of the Bundesliga standings.
Die Borussen are now on 64 points from 28 games, moving 11 clear of Stuttgart and Leipzig with only six games remaining into the campaign.
It wasn't the best game from Dortmund, who were struggling to break down their hosts at the MHP Arena but managed to get the job done, nonetheless.
Another step closer to achieving Champions League qualification.
Impact substitutes to the rescue
Der BVB, winless in their last seven clashes to the Reds, were having an underwhelming game for most of the time until Niko Kovac made a few tweaks.
With the introduction of Fabio Silva, Karim Adeyemi and Julian Brandt, the visitors looked more dangerous and made forays with purpose.
Adeyemi then broke the deadlock in the fourth added minute with a lovely strike before Brandt joined in with a fearsome effort from a tight angle.
Brandt will be a big miss for Dortmund
Julian Brandt is confirmed to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer and the club will be poorer for it. Last night, he once again reminded what they are going to miss from next season.
Coming off the bench in the second half, Brandt injected a lot of flair and panache into the side. It was his looping cross that led to Adeyemi's strike before turning the scorer himself for their second.
Over the last seven years, the German international has displayed why he's one of the most sought-after midfielders in the world and last night's match-winning cameo was the latest example of it.
Surely, whichever player comes into replace him will have big boots to fill.
The Stuttgart curse ends
Borussia Dortmund came into the fixture knowing all too well about their struggles against Stuttgart in recent times. In fact, they hadn't beaten Die Roten since October 2022, a run stretching back by seven games.
During this period, the Black and Yellows were also beaten five times in a row. That run came agonizingly close to ending back in November when Dortmund led twice in the game, only for Stuttgart to equalize each time.
But on Saturday, the home side, although sturdy at the back, looked utterly toothless going forward as their resistence was finally broken in stoppage time with Dortmund upping their ante late on.
