Borussia Dortmund star Nico Schlotterbeck is reportedly generating interest from Premier League giants Manchester United and Liverpool, according to German news outlet BILD.

Rumors of his exit have been doing the rounds lately although the player was said to have been close to signing an extension last week.

But following Germany's 2-1 friendly win over Ghana on Sunday, Schlotterbeck, who was on international duty with Die Mannschaft, cleared the air that nothing has been agreed yet.

Among the reasons for this could be his desire to renegotiate his salary as well as the release clause with the new sporting director, Nils-Ole Book. He could reportedly earn up to €14 million per year on a new contract running until 2031.

However, another reason could be the renewed interest from the Premier League. Manchester United and Liverpool have been linked with 26-year-old defender now, a prospect that could further diminish his chances of committing his future with Dortmund given the appeal of playing in the English top-flight with either of those two giants.

It is reported that Schlotterbeck could be seeking to leave the Signal Iduna Park this summer following the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

He has also been linked with Spanish giants Real Madrid, who are looking to beef up their backline next season following another disappointing campaign on all fronts.

Schlotterbeck joined Borussia Dortmund from SC Freiburg in 2022 and has since cemented his place in their starting XI, becoming a vital figure in their backline with his leadership skills, positional awareness and a knack for duels.

He's made 154 appearances in all competitions, including 105 in the Bundesliga while also netting 10 goals, which demonstrates offensive abilities too.

Adeyemi to follow suit?

Nico Schlotterbeck isn't the only player whose future is up in the air right now. Karim Adeyemi could follow suit too. The German international would reportedly be put on the sale by Dortmund this summer as the club aims to raise their budget for the summer transfer window, which currently is said to be €25 million.

Although the Black and Yellows were earlier interested in offering an extension, SPORT BILD reports that the club's views have changed in recent meetings as Adeyemi is now considered as replaceable.

Moreover, the player himself has shown little interest in continuing with Dortmund as he reportedly eyes a move to Premier League and his transfer could raise another €50 million for the club, aiding their transfer objectives for the summer.
