Borussia Dortmund star Maximilian Beier just gave Germany head coach Julian Naglesmann another reminder of why he should be on their World Cup squad.

The 23-year-old made two assists in their 3-2 win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday to play an instrumental role as the BVB were officially confirmed as the league runners-up.

Starting on the left side of a four-man midfield, Beier wreaked havoc on the flank with his electric speed and impeccable ball-control.

His first real piece of action came in the added minutes of the opening stanza when the German ran down a few yards on the edge of the box before laying it off for Nico Schlotterbeck.

In the second half, Beier repeated the trick from the other end of the pitch, this time squaring it for Samuele Inacio to slot it home from close-range.

That's nine assists in the Bundesliga this season for Beier and 10 overall, demonstrating his lethal knack for crossing and for finding gaps in opposition defenses.

Signed from Hoffenheim in 2024, the diminutive attacker has added a new layer to Dortmund's offensive vanguard while he's adept at scoring too.

Having bagged 10 goals in all competitions last season, he's netted another 10 in the 2025-26 campaign too. That's a goal contribution of 20 in 43 games, averaging almost one every two games.

The stats cannot be ignored and his performance on Friday was another reminder of why Beier deserves a place in Germany's 2026 FIFA World Cup squad.

Head coach Julian Naglesmann hasn't announced his preliminary squad yet, but he had notably left out the Dortmund star for their March friendlies to Switzerland and Ghana even though Beier was fully fit and on a good run of form too.

The shocking omission prompted Niko Kovac to question it too although Naglesmann later clarified that the door to Germany squad isn't fully closed for Beier yet, indicating that he could be called-up later.

Now following some strong displays in the black and yellow colors, there's hope that Beier could be named in the squad, which is set to be announced on 21 May.

He could be a vital figure in the Die Mannschaft set-up who can offer width on the flanks and create goalscoring opportunities by the drop of a hat with his defense-splitting passes.

Given the intense competition for places in the German squad, it's not clear whether Beier would a surefire starter. Nonetheless, he can still be a valuable option off the bench.
