Edin Terzic has stated that his time at Borussia Dortmund helped him grow as a leader and taught him a lot of lessons, adding that he is now ready for the next chapter in his career.
DFB-Pokal triumph, narrowly missing out on the Bundesliga title in heartbreaking fashion, agonising Champions League final defeat after a memorable run - Edin Terzic's run as Borussia Dortmund head coach had it all. The 41 year old made the shock decision to resign as BVB head coach soon after the defeat to Real Madrid, and has now penned his reflections from his time at the club.
In a column for Coaches Voice, Terzic gave a number of insights into his philosophy and dived into what he learned during his time as Borussia Dortmund head coach. "In my time as Borussia Dortmund head coach, I grew as a leader. Dealing with all these challenges at the highest level – at a club with the biggest fanbase in Germany – helped, and was needed for me to grow."
"There are many lessons I have learned... I found out that sometimes it’s not enough to score one more goal [than the opposition]. It’s not only about winning; it’s also about winning in style. Now I’m thinking about winning with two goals more than the opposition."
"Like every coach, I want my team to be dominant, active, and play attractive football – to entertain and be successful. But I would summarise what I want from my team like this: when we attack we should play with each other, and when we defend we should play for each other.
Edin Terzic ready to get back into coaching
Four months after leaving Borussia Dortmund, Terzic is ready to make his return to the coaching dugout. He has been linked with moves to AS Roma and AC Milan, while Manchester United are also said to be considering him as a possible replacement for Erik ten Hag.
"I am ready to go for the next chapter in my career. I have been reflecting and preparing myself, considering what went well in the past and which things I don’t want to repeat... I am a young manager, but in three seasons as a head coach I have been able to fight for trophies every season."
It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Edin Terzic. But one thing is for sure, he gave Borussia Dortmund some truly incredible memories, even is silverware eluded him on the big stage.
