Borussia Dortmund visit the Borussia Park on Sunday to face-off with Borussia Monchengladbach in their penultimate away game of the 2025-26 Bundesliga season.
The Black and Yellows have their confidence restored after a stunning 4-0 win over Freiburg last weekend that also secured Champions League qualification.
However, their job isn't done yet. Niko Kovac said afterwards that his team hopes to pick up the maximum points from their remaining games and achieve a runners-up finish too.
Should Dortmund indeed come second, it would mark their highest finish in the German top-flight since 2023, which would further reflect Kovac's impact on the squad in his first full-season at the helm.
Here's what to look forward to on Sunday:
Battle of two contrasting Borussias
There are 13 sporting clubs in Germany that bear the name Borussia, of which two of the best go head-to-head on Sunday as Gladbach host Dortmund.
However, the side's enter the clash on a contrasting run of form: while the BVB are fresh off a 4-0 demolition job of Freiburg, the Foals haven't won in their last five.
Since beating St. Pauli 2-0 on 14 March for just their seventh league win of the season, the Lower Rhine outfit have drawn four times while losing once.
While the BVB are up in second with 67 points from 31 games, Gladbach are down in 11th place with a meager 32 points.
Best defense vs worst attack
Despite trailing champions Bayern Munich by a massive 15 points, Borussia Dortmund still boast a better defensive record with 31 goals conceded in 31 games, compared to 32 for the former.
It's the least number of goals conceded by a side in the Bundesliga this season, a testament to Die Schwarzgelben's stoic backline.
By contrast, Gladbach have one of the worst offensive vanguards in the division with only 36 goals scored - only Union Berlin (35), Heidenheim (35), Hamburg (34) and St. Pauli (26) have struck fewer.
Moreover, they have failed to score in 11 league matches this season, the most blanks drawn by a side in the division along with Heidenheim.
Dortmund's struggles at Borussia Park
Inspite of all this, Dortmund won't be taking their visit lightly as the side is well aware of their struggles at the Borussia Park: of their last six visits, the BVB have won just once and lost thrice.
Their most recent visit, coming in December 2024, saw the sides play out a 1-1 draw as Jamie Gittens' strike was canceled out by Kevin Stoger.
