It's already been a week since Borussia Dortmund finished their 2025-26 campaign but the memories of a rollicking season remain fresh in the conscience for now.

Boasting some highly talented young guns as well as skillfull experienced stars, the BVB oversaw a year of pulsating action; filled with goals, emotions and some tears too.

Although it didn't yield any trophy, head coach Niko Kovac has laid the foundation for potentially glorious spell ahead should they continue in the same vein or get better.

Having said that, here are some important records and milestones achieved by the club:

Fifth best league campaign

With 73 points in 34 games, Borussia Dortmund had the fifth-best campaign in the Bundesliga history. They have accumulated more points in only four previous seasons: 2011-12 (81), 2015-16 (78), 2018-19 (76) and 2010-11 (75).

Joint highest runners-up finishes

For the first time since 2023, the BVB sealed a second place in the Bundesliga. But it was their 10th overall, now a joint record alongside rivals Bayern Munich for the most number of runners-up finishes in the German top-flight.

Best defensive record, a rare feat

With only 34 goals conceded in 34 games, Die Borussen had the best defensive record of any German side in the top division. Even champions Bayern Munich shipped in two more (36) than them.

This is a rare feat for the club, as it was just the third time in the competition's history that Dortmund registered the least number of goals conceded.

They previously achieved the feat in 1965-66, when they conceded 36 goals from 34 games (but finished second) and then in the title-winning season of 2010-11, shipping in just 22.

Goals galore in Champions League

Borussia Dortmund's Champions League season fizzled out rather disappointingly, especially considering the blistering manner in which it began.

The club struck four goals in their first three games of the 2025-26 season, becoming the first club to achieve the feat.

A 4-4 draw away to Juventus on the opening day was followed by a 4-1 home win over Athletic Bilbao before another epic 4-2 win in Copenhagen.

Also, the eight-goal thriller in Turin was the highest-scoring draw ever recorded in the Champions League era as Dortmund added yet another clash to their ever-growing list of epic games they were a part of, in Europe.

Following such a promising run under Kovac's first full-season in-charge, bigger things are expected in 2026-27 season.
