Karim Adeyemi returned to Borussia Dortmund's training ground for the last time on Thursday to bid his teammates and the coaching staff an emotional farewell.

The German was officially unveiled as the new Barcelona player the following day after completing a €22 million transfer, signing a five-year contract running through June 2031.

Adeyemi says goodbye

The mood inside the BVB training ground turned emotional when Adeyemi stepped in for the final time as the 24-year-old hugged his teammates and coaching staff while also signing a few Black and Yellow shirts with his jersey number 27 on the back.

He also gave a speech to more than 40 people in attendance there, saying it was a 'difficult goodbye' for him as he'd 'grown fond' of the club and the people working there. The midfielder hoped to 'part on good terms' and see them again someday, while wishing everyone the best and good health.

Dortmund's sporting director Lars Ricken also weighed in. Addressing the departing star, he said:

"“You’ve created some great memories at Borussia Dortmund that will truly last a long time.” "

Four years of creative wizardry

Signed from Red Bull Salzburg in 2022, Karim Adeyemi quickly became a creative inspiration in the side for his devastating link-up plays and ball-carrying ability while also possessing a keen eye for goal.

Over four years at the club, the Germany international made 146 appearances in all competitions and scored 36 goals while assisting another 25. But unfortunately, it didn't yield any silverware with Adeyemi only securing the runners-up medal in the 2024 UEFA Champions League final.

Adeyemi reunites with Hansi Flick

Karim Adeyemi is set to be reunited with his former Germany manager Hansi Flick at FC Barcelona in what could finally unlock the player's real potential. After all, it was Flick who first recognized his talents and gave him an opportunity with the national team while he was still at Red Bull Salzburg.

With the pre-season coming up, the Catalans won't have many of their first-team stars for the initial few games, especially the Spanish contingent that went all the way. This gives Flick a chance to play Adeyemi and figure out his best position within his tactical system.

Number 14 jersey assigned

Among other news regarding Adeyemi's move to Barcelona, it's been revealed that he would be donning the jersey number 14 at the club. It was previously worn by Marcus Rashford during 2025-26 season. But now with the Englishman returning to Manchester United after the end of his loan spell, the shirt has been passed on to Adeyemi.
