Borussia Dortmund manager Niko Kovac has confirmed that Karim Adeyemi is set to miss their clash with Freiburg in the Bundesliga on Sunday.

The BVB are looking to arrest their spiral after back-to-back losses and return to winning ways here as their title hopes were officially over last weekend with Bayern Munich crowned champions.

With the runners-up spot still up for grabs, Dortmund are looking to nail it down as soon as possible although their recent struggles have allowed RB Leipzig to trim the gap on them.

The Red Bulls are now only two points behind them in third but having played a game more although the pressure is now on the Black and Yellows to restore it back to five.

Dortmund's task though will be cut out without one of their star players Karim Adeyemi on the pitch, with the German international remaining sidelined with an injury and not assuming training yet.

Kovac in his pre-match presser confirmed that he will be missing in action on Sunday again, but could possibly return for the trip to Borussia Monchengladbach next weekend.

"“It’s always difficult to give a clear prognosis when it comes to muscle injuries. He needs to feel confident. If he doesn’t feel good, we won’t rush him back into action because that could make things a bit worse. I’m convinced that he’ll definitely be back after the Freiburg game, maybe after the Gladbach match.""
said the Croatian manager

Felix Nmecha has returned to training but will remain out for now as Kovac hopes to see him "before the end of the season" while Serhou Guirassy was back at the training following a knock in their last game and could feature off the bench here.

Outgoing defender Niklas Sule is also unavailable for tonight while skipper Emre Can has long been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Kovac expects a tough encounter to Freiburg

Dortmund boast a good record to Freiburg, although the Breisgau-Brasilianer have looked solid lately, winning their last two Bundesliga games and three of their last four.

Kovac was all the praises for them ahead of the clash, while expecting a daunting fixture:

"“You’ve seen all season that Freiburg are a very experienced, very seasoned side who know how they need to play to win. I expect a team that will go full throttle for 90 minutes again. We’ll have to give it our all. The statistics from recent years mean nothing. We need to be on our toes right from the start, and I hope and expect my lads to do just that from the very first minute.”"
