Leeds United are reportedly exploring a possible deal for ex-Borussia Dortmund star Julian Brandt, who is available for free in this summer transfer market.

The 31-year-old departed Signal Iduna Park last season after seven years as both parties mutually decided not to extend his contract beyond this summer.

Brandt, along with other departing stars Salih Ozcan and Niklas Sule, was honored during their final home game of the 2025-26 Bundesliga season last month.

His next move is still undecided but several top European clubs have been linked with him such as LaLiga's Atletico Madrid and Barcelona and Serie A giants AS Roma.

Leeds United have also now expressed interest as the Premier League is reportedly exploring the possibility of getting him to Elland Road this summer.

As Daniel Farke's side prepare for another season in the English top-flight, they are looking to bolster their attacking options and having a player of Brandt's quality on the books would certainly be a major coup.

An attacking midfielder by trade, Brandt brings a devastating passing range and an uncanny ability to unlock defenses with his intelligent movements. The German's technical quality and vision are second to none either.

But his best attribute is perhaps his incredible versatility to operate from a number of positions in the midfield as well as the attack, something that would give Farke a lot of tactical flexibility and a new dimension to the side altogether.

Moreover, Leeds United have been leaning more on free transfers in recent times to build their squad rather economically. Signing a player of Brandt's caliber would represent a rare opportunity to add a proven top-level quality without paying a transfer fee.

The midfielder has spent his entire club career plying his trade in the upper echelons of European football with Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund, so he possesses elite experience which can prove invaluable to a Leeds side looking to establish itself in the Premier League.

At this stage of the year though, nothing is confirmed as yet with the Peacocks still only evaluating if a transfer is possible. Plus, Brandt would likely come with a huge wage demand too. And then there's the case for interests from top sides.

Clubs like Atletico Madrid and Barcelona easily overshadow Leeds in terms of stature and come with the promise of Champions League football. With the Catalans, he might as well get his hands on a few trophies too.
