Manchester United have reportedly made an approach for Borussia Dortmund star Julian Ryerson. The full-back is currently at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with Norway where his impressive displays have compelled the Red Devils to reignite their interest.

Ryerson had been linked with United for sometime now and has remained on the club's list of potential recruits in the right-back spot. Although head coach Michael Carrick already has Diogo Dalot in that position, more quality and dept is reportedly being sought.

With 15 assists in the Bundesliga last season, Ryerson emerged as Dortmund's chief creator-in-chief as well as the league's most creative defender as the Norway international had the best run of his career in 2025-26 season.

Blessed with electric pace and exceptional ball-control, the 28-year-old added a new dimension to BVB's attacking vanguard and Manchester United are keen to have such a player bombing down their wings too.

The club is set for a busier season ahead after securing a Champions League return and want to bolster their squad for the same while also hoping to put up a strong run in the Premier League.

Bringing a talented full-back such as Ryerson would certainly help in that regard. He's currently in his prime and a move to Old Trafford will signal a massive step-up in his burgeoning career.

Five years ago, United had signed Jadon Sancho from Dortmund for a massive sum which ultimately failed to yield any dividends as the Englishman struggled to replicate his BVB heroics in the fabled red colors of Manchester.

In January 2024, the playmaker moved back to Signal Iduna Park for a loan spell which failed to ignite his best form and returned to United the following summer.

Manchester United could be heading back to Dortmund for another highly-rated player in Ryerson, but the Black and Yellows are said to have no intention of selling him.

The Norwegian star is seen as an important figure and want to retain him for next season too but the Bundesliga giants may still consider if a bid in the region of €30 million (£25.6 million) is received.

Borussia Dortmund are looking to raise capital to meet some of their own transfer targets and selling Ryerson for an appropriate price could fill up their coffers, opening the door for some more new transfers.

So far, the club has signed Joane Gadou from Red Bull Salzburg in a €19.5 million transfer, Justin Lerma from Independiente for €4 million and another €7 million spent on Kaua Prates from Cruzeiro.
