Two Borussia Dortmund players were in action for their respective national teams on Monday, as Donyell Malen pressed his case for a spot in the Netherlands starting XI with a goal and an assist.

Euro 2024 is set to get underway this week, and preparations are in full swing. The Netherlands concluded their European Championship prep on Monday by cruising to a 4-0 win over Iceland in a warm-up match. It was an excellent performance from the Dutch, who are firming up as one of the contenders to win the tournament in Germany.

Borussia Dortmund forward Donyell Malen came off the bench and found the back of the net in the 79th minute. The 25 year old made an excellent run past the Iceland defence to get on the end of Memphis Depay’s through ball and scored his side’s third goal with a fine low finish. He then set up Wout Weghorst for the Netherlands’ fourth goal with a cut-back in stoppage time.

The Netherlands also suffered a blow on Monday as it was revealed that key midfielder Frenkie de Jong will miss Euro 2024 due to injury. On-loan Borussia Dortmund left-back Ian Maatsen has been called up to the Dutch squad in de Jong’s place.

Turkey were also in action on Monday, as they fell to a 2-1 defeat to Poland in their final warm-up match ahead of Euro 2024. Salih Özcan played from the start for Turkey, but was subbed off in the 61st minute. Nicola Zalewski scored a 90th minute winner for Poland.
