Borussia Dortmund’s midfield has been noted as an area of interest for the club to work on this summer due to inconsistent performances from players occupying the middle of the park. In particular, the club has been linked with adding another player or two that can occupy the number 6 position and provide competition for club captain Emre Can and Turkish international Salih Özcan if he is at the club beyond this summer.

Many players have already been mentioned as possible targets, with Jerdy Schouten and now Pascal Groß coming to the fore as options. Reports have indicated that Groß seems to be imminent, but it’s possible that Dortmund won’t stop there in terms of rebuilding the midfield.

According to reports, Die Schwarzgelben may once again reignite their interest in Leeds United’s young star Archie Gray. Gray, who’s been linked with a move to Dortmund previously, is once again reportedly being monitored closely by the club. The report also indicates that Gray himself is considering a move to Dortmund as an option to show what he can do on a bigger stage.

Previous reports have indicated that due to Gray’s close ties to Leeds (spanning back generations), the player would like to continue his development by not signing for another English team. Dortmund, with their rebuild in full swing, could be a great destination for Gray to get minutes and continue to grow his immense talents. The player can play as a 6 or an 8, giving him ample space in midfield to slot in and get substantial time on the pitch.

According to the report, the deal for Gray could reach 35 million euros (if Dortmund does make a move for the player) but it is likely that the club would do their best to keep the fee well below this range. That being said, however, we’ve seen Dortmund commit to putting substantial money down for players who really do impress them, especially those of English heritage, with Jude Bellingham in particular coming to mind.

While nothing is set in stone as of yet, Dortmund’s reported interest in Gray will be something to keep tabs on this summer. He may end up being yet another young talent that Dortmund can mold into a future superstar.
