Gio Reyna received an offer to join Bundesliga side VfL Bochum on a loan deal this summer, but Borussia Dortmund decided to keep the attacking midfielder at the club.

Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl recently said that Gio Reyna could become an important player for the club this season, having worked hard to improve his game during the off-season. But it wasn't long ago that both the club and the player were keen to part ways.

And Bundesliga club VfL Bochum made an attempt to sign the 21 year old on a loan deal during the recently concluded transfer window.

This is being claimed by BILD, and the report adds that Reyna and his agent were open to the move to Borussia Dortmund's neighbours with a view towards getting his career back on track. But the proposed move did not materialise in the end, with Borussia Dortmund deciding to keep the USMNT international at the club.

The last 12 or so months have certainly not gone according to plan for Reyna. He struggled for playing time at Borussia Dortmund, and then spent the majority of his loan spell with Nottingham Forest on the bench. He said in June that he wants to be at a club where he can feel valued.

Reyna has made one substitute appearance for Borussia Dortmund so far this season, and will hope for more playing time after the international break as the UEFA Champions League gets underway. He is currently away with the United States squad for their friendly double header against Canada and New Zealand.

Gio Reyna still has two years left on his current contract with Borussia Dortmund. He has made a total of 122 appearances for the club, and has 17 goals and 17 assists to his name.
