Edin Terzic has praised Borussia Dortmund's second-choice goalkeeper Alexander Meyer for stepping up whenever called upon.

Being second-choice goalkeeper behind one of the world's best young goalkeepers is certainly not easy. But Alexander Meyer does a solid job of it. The 32 year old has only made 16 appearances for Borussia Dortmund since his 2022 move from SSV Jahn Regensburg. But he has hardly put a foot wrong, and has always proved to be a reliable presence between the sticks.

Meyer was asked to come into the starting XI against PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday at a moment's notice after Gregor Kobel's muscular issue flared up. He put in a decent shift in goal, and was only beaten by Luuk de Jong's penalty in the 1-1 draw.

With Kobel still injured, Meyer will start in goal for Borussia Dortmund on Sunday as they go up against TSG Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga. And Edin Terzic was full of praise of the goalkeeper during his pre-match press conference.

"I don't think the qualities of Gregor Kobel need to be discussed. Alex has stepped in for him time and time again. It doesn't give us any anxiety, because we know we can always rely on him. He gets stuck in straight away, radiates calm on the ball and plays precise passes."

Alexander Meyer was linked with a move away from Borussia Dortmund in the summer. But he decided to extend his contract with the club. His current contract has less than 18 months left to run. And if he keeps performing like this, another extension could soon be in the offing.
