Edin Terzic was delighted with Mateu Morey's performance against AZ Alkmaar, as the Borussia Dortmund right-back celebrated his first appearance since July.

Mateu Morey has had to endure a very difficult time with injuries, and hasn't made a competitive appearance for the Borussia Dortmund first-team since May 2021. The right-back appears to finally be on the comeback trail, and did make the BVB bench on a number of ocassions before the winter break.

The 23 year old celebrated his return to the pitch on Saturday as he played 45 minutes during Borussia Dortmund's friendly match against AZ Alkmaar. And Edin Terzic was pleased with his performance.

"Mateu played a really great game," Terzic said. "You couldn't tell that it has been so long since his last appearance. He has been fighting his way back over the past few months, so we have to be careful with him. The aim was to have him on the pitch for 45 minutes and he played exceptionally well."

Morey, who joined Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer from FC Barcelona in 2019, will now hope to press on and make a case for playing time in the Bundesliga. With Julian Ryerson injured, Marius Wolf dealing with an illness, and Ramy Bensebaini unavailable, an opportunity could certainly arise for the Spaniard in the coming weeks.

Mateu Morey is one of the six Borussia Dortmund players who will be out of contract at the end of the current season. And the next few months will certainly be decisive for his future.
