Borussia Dortmund captain Emre Can has had his say on Edin Terzic’s resignation as Borussia Dortmund head coach, and the subsequent appointment of Nuri Sahin.

Last week was full of bombshells for Borussia Dortmund, as it was announced that both Edin Terzic and Mats Hummels will be leaving the club. The BVB bosses moved swiftly to appoint Nuri Sahin as the successor to Edin Terzic, with the former Turkey midfielder putting pen to paper on a three year contract.

Emre Can, who was appointed club captain by Edin Terzic, spoke about the 41 year old’s exit during a press conference on Sunday. “Edin made me captain of this team. I'm also very grateful to him for a lot of things. We definitely had a good time with him.”

He also reflected on his first season as BVB captain. “It was a season full of ups and downs. Things didn't go so well in the Bundesliga [this season], but we did much better in the Champions League.”

Can also commented on the appointment of Sahin, and said that he has a good relationship with the former BVB midfielder. “I'm definitely very happy for Nuri. I have a very good relationship with him, that's true. He's an incredibly good coach. And he will definitely help us.”

Nuri Sahin, who made 274 appearances for Borussia Dortmund as a player, returned to the club in January as an assistant coach. He has now been given the head coach job and will look to lead the club to success in the Bundesliga next season.

After starting regularly under Edin Terzic, it will be interesting to see what role Emre Can plays at Borussia Dortmund in the coming campaign.
