With Ian Maatsen set to join Aston Villa, Borussia Dortmund have identified Ferdi Kadıoğlu as their top target for the left-back position.

Borussia Dortmund’s summer transfer plans were handed a blow this week as Aston Villa agreed to a deal to sign Ian Maatsen on a permanent transfer from Chelsea. The talented left-back enjoyed an impressive loan spell at the Westfalenstadion in the second half of the recently concluded season. But the Black and Yellows simply stood no chance when the Premier League side offered a fee of around 44 million euros for Maatsen.

Maatsen will sign a six year contract with Aston Villa, and Borussia Dortmund now must find an alternative if they are to bolster their left-back ranks this summer.

Ferdi Kadıoğlu is said to be one of the names on Borussia Dortmund’s list. And according to BILD, the 24 year old has now emerged as the club’s top target. The tabloid adds that the BVB bosses will have to pay a fee in excess of 20 million euros to sign Kadıoğlu, who has two years left on his current contract with Fenerbahce.

Kadıoğlu came through the youth team ranks at NEC Nijmegen before he made the switch to Fenerbahce in 2018. The full-back has made a total of 199 appearances for the Turkish club, and has been ever-present in their line-up in recent years.

It remains to be seen if newly appointed Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho would be willing to part ways with the talented Ferdi Kadıoğlu this summer. Reports in Turkey claim that Borussia Dortmund have already made official contact with Fenerbahce as they look to get his signature over the line.
