Borussia Dortmund could turn their attentions towards signing Ferdi Kadıoğlu from Fenerbahce if they are unable to afford a move for Ian Maatsen.

The summer transfer window is upon us and squad planning is underway at Borussia Dortmund as Nuri Sahin looks to stamp his authority on the squad. The newly appointed head coach is looking to bring in Ferdi Kadıoğlu, who could emerge as a target for BVB if they fail to sign Ian Maatsen this summer.

Maatsen is Borussia Dortmund’s top target for the left-back position on the back of his impressive loan spell with the club. But the Black and Yellows would have to pay Chelsea a club record transfer fee of 35 million euros to sign him permanently.

If Maatsen proves to be too expensive for Borussia Dortmund, they could look to sign Kadıoğlu. According to Sky Sport, the 24 year old is one of the club’s top alternatives if they fail to sign Maatsen this summer.

Primarily a left-back but also capable of playing on the opposite flank, Kadıoğlu is coming off an impressive season with Fenerbahce. He has attracted the interest of a number of big clubs in recent months, including Arsenal and Bayern Munich.

It remains to be seen what transfer fee Borussia Dortmund would have to pay to sign Kadıoğlu, who still has two years left on his current contract with Fenerbahce.

Ramy Bensebaini and Tom Rothe are the other left-backs in the Borussia Dortmund squad. But the former is facing an uncertain future after a disappointing debut season, while the latter is coming off a promising loan spell with Holstein Kiel and could potentially head out on loan again next season.
